Bottas Leads The Way In FP1 As Kubica Returns

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team’s Valtteri Bottas was the pace setter in the opening practice session ahead of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix at the Barcelona Circuit Du Catalunya as Formula One returns to Europe.

The Finns set a fastest time of 01:18.148s ending the session just ahead of his team mate and world championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was third despite spinning during the session. The four time world champion ended the session just ahead of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen.

Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari was fifth fastest while Fernando Alonso recorded the sixth fastest time, a 01:19.858s for McLaren Renault.

Daniel Ricciardo was seventh fastest just ahead of the Haas F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean while Stoffel Vandoorne was ninth. Pierre Gasly rounded out the top ten for Toro Rosso with a time of 01:20.585s.

Kevin Magnussen was 11th just ahead of the Sauber F1 Team’s Charles LeClerc.

Sahara Force India’s Sergio Perez was 13th fastest just ahead of Marcus Ericsson. Carlos Sainz was 15th fastest for the Renault Sport F1 Team with a fastest time of 01:21.053s.

Esteban Ocon was 16th for Force India just ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in the second Renault.

Grendon Hartley was 18th fastest for Toro Rosso. On his return to the cockpit for the Williams Martini Racing, Robert Kubica was 19th with a fastest time of 01:21.510s while Lance Stroll rounded out the order in the second Williams.
