Newgarden Takes His Fifth Career Pole At Road America

Defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion Josef Newgarden in the No.1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet took his fifth career pole position on Saturday for the Kohler Grand Prix at the Road America circuit setting a time of 01:43.2026s and starts the race just ahead of his team mate and Indianapolis 500 winner Will Power.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda starts the race from third place with a qualifying time of 01:43.3811s and starts the race just ahead of his team mate Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Robert Wickens starts the race from fifth in the No.6 Lucas Oil Honda while Sebastien Bourdais in the No.18 SealMaster Honda for Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser Sullivan starts the race from sixth place just ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato in the No.30 MiJack/Panasonic Honda.

Series points leader Scott Dixon starts the race from eighth place in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda starts the race from eighth place just ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal in the No.15 Gehl Honda. Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot rounded out the top ten in the No.21 Direct Supply Chevrolet.

Zach Veach in the No.26 Relay Group 1001 Honda starts the race from 11th place just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ed Jones who starts the race from 12th place.

Jordan King in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet starts the race from 13th place just ahead of Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 Menards Chevrolet. Marco Andretti in the No.98 US Concrete Honda starts the race from 15th place just ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Zachary Claman DeMelo starts the race from 17th place in the No.19 Paysafe Honda. AJ Foyt Racing’s Tony Kanaan starts the race from 18th place just ahead of Carlin Racing’s Charlie Kimball in the No.23 Tresiba Chevrolet.

Matheus ‘Matt’ Leist in the No.4 ABC Supply Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing start the race from 20th place just ahead of Juncos Racing’s Alfonso Celis who starts the race from 21st place just ahead of Carlin Racing’s Max Chilton. Harding Racing’s Gabby Chaves in the No.88 Harding Group Chevrolet rounds out the grid in 23rd place.
