Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing A Potential Partner For McLaren
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing have emerged as a potential partner for McLaren in the Verizon IndyCar Series.
Paddock Eye has learned that despite reports that Michael Andretti had placed a deadline of this week for the Woking based outfit to make a decision about joining the series with his team, McLaren CEO Zak Brown has confirmed they have no deadline.
Brown has also confirmed that Andretti Autosport are not the only team that McLaren have been talking to.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team co-owner Bobby Rahal confirmed earlier this season that his team would be interested in running a third full-time entry in IndyCar in 2019 under the right circumstances.
A McLaren/Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing partnership would prove to be beneficial to all parties with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing having been successful in recent seasons allowing them to expand to a two car full-time entrant for this season with Takuma Sato joining from Andretti Autosport.
There has been no comment from either Brown or Rahal over the latest reports but Paddock Eye understands that Alonso will conduct a test in an IndyCar later this season which could potentially be with Rahal’s team.
Brown confirmed to the Indianapolis based IndyStar over the weekend that McLaren have completed their due diligence on IndyCar and are making a decision on an IndyCar entry.
If a McLaren/Rahal partnership camecto fruition it would give them an extremely strong line up with Graham Rahal, Takuma Sato and Fernando Alonso.
