Alonso Focused On WEC In Silverstone
McLaren’s Fernando Alonso may be considering his future in Formula One over the Summer break however the two time champion is fully focused in the Six Hours of Silverstone.
The Spaniard currently leads the FIA World Endurance Championship having won the opening two races at Spa Francorchomps and the LeMans 24 Hours adding to his triple crown ambition.
Alonso has been linked with a full-time move to the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2019 as McLaren embark on expanding their racing exploits outside of F1.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown who has been talking to a number of Verizon IndyCar Series teams about a partnership has confirmed however that suring the summer break he and Alonso will be staying in Europe to focus on the World Endurance Championship.
Alonso and his Toyota Gazoo Racing team have been the class of the field so far this season and they will be looking to extend their lead with a strong result in Silverstone.
Zak Brown has confirmed that Alonso may test an IndyCar during the autumn and as Paddock Eye reported on Monday this could be with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
In a separate development McLaren have described reports that Executive Committee Principal Mansour Ojjeh has reaigned as ‘completely misleading’.
Ojjeh attended this year’s Indianapolis 500 earlier this aummer and is very keen to see McLaren diversify their racing interests outside of Formula One.
