McLaren May Have Dropped An IndyCar Hint On Friday

The motorsport world is rife with speculation regarding double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso’s BIG announcement that will come on Tuesday. At the weekend, the Spaniard teased his Twitter followers with a countdown video with a tweet saying there is an announcement coming on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Verizon IndyCar Series tweeted to Alonso asking if they were still on for lunch on Tuesday fueling speculation that the Spaniard who is preparing for this weekend’s Six Hours of Silverstone with Toyota Gazoo Racing is about to trade F1 for IndyCar.

The Formula One circus on holiday at the moment however, last Friday, 10th August did McLaren drop a hint about where their future lies?

The team tweeted a video of Johnny Rutherford’s Indianapolis 500 winning McLaren with the Borg Warner trophy, was this a subtle hint as to what is to come on Tuesday? Paddock Eye understands that McLaren are in discussions with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing about partnering with the Woking based outfit for the 2019 IndyCar Series.

Alonso’s potential IndyCar announcement comes just a day after it was confirmed that series points leader Scott Dixon who had been linked with a move to either Penske or McLaren will remain with Chip Ganassi Racing having confirmed a multi-year contract extension.
