Former Formula One driver Jenson Button is looking forward to returning to Silverstone this weekend where he will compete in the Six Hours of Silverstone with SMP Racing.

The 2009 F1 champion who retired from Formula One at the end of the 2016 returned to full-time racing this year as he contests the entire WEC super season.

The former McLaren driver took part in his first 24 Hours of LeMans in June and speaking ahead of his home race he told the official WEC website:

“I’ve always wanted to race [at Le Mans]; for every driver it’s always very special. “It was actually through a friend with mine, who was testing with ByKolles in Portimão, James Rossiter.

“He said, ‘the BR1 looks quick, you should see if there’s a seat available’. It’s great to have the opportunity to drive these cars, because they are so fast. For privateers to be able to do 3m18s or 3m19s lap times around Le Mans is fantastic.”

Button is hoping that he will be able to finish on the podium at home on Sunday, something he wasn’t able to do during his time in Formula One.
