Veach Leads The Way In Pocono Practice
Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach in the No.26 Group 1001 Honda led a rain delayed opening practice session for the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway on Saturday.
Veach set a fastest speed of 217.393MPH ending the session just ahead of defending series champion Josef Newgarden in the No.1 Hitachi Chevrolet for Team Penske.
Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda was third fastest with a speed of 216.907MPH.
Dale Coyne with Vasser Sullivan Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais in the No.18 Team SealMaster Honda was fourth fastest just ahead of championship leader Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda.
AJ Foyt Racing’s Tony Kanaan in the No.14 ABC Supply Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing was sixth fastest just ahead of Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato was eighth fastest just ahead of his team mate Graham Rahal.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda rounded out the top ten.
Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet was 11th just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot while Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Robert Wickens in the No.6 Lucas Oil Honda was 13th just ahead of Marco Andretti in the No.98 US Concrete Bryan Herta Autosport Honda.
Charlie Kimball in the No.23 Tresiba ® Chevrolet for Carlin Racing was 15th just ahead of team owner driver Ed Carpenter.
Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda ended the session in 17th place just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Matheus ‘Matt’ Leist.
Pietro Fittipaldi was 19th fastest in the No.19 Paysafe Honda for Dale Coyne Racing while Ed Jones was 20th.
Max Chilton in the No.59 Gallagher Chevrolet for Carlin Racing was 21st while Harding Racing’s Conor Daly in the No.88 Harding Group Chevrolet rounded out the order in 22nd place.
