Andretti Autosport team owner Michael Andretti says he sees no reason why Fernando Alonso can’t be competitive in IndyCar straight away should he decide to go down that route.

The double Formula One world champion who will retire from the sport at the end of the season will test with Andretti Autosport in a 2018 spec IndyCar at Road America today as he evaluates whether to make a full-time move to the US or not for 2019.

Andretti who teamed up with McLaren last year to bring Alonso to the Indianapolis 500 could continue that relationship next season.

Andretti hopes that Alonso enjoys the test on the road course.
