Man This Is So Awesome!
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda was delighted on Sunday evening after being crowned the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series champion following his second place finish in the season finale Grand Prix of Sonoma was enough to ensure the Iceman claimed his fifth series championship.
Speaking following the race he said:
“Man, this is so awesome!” “I can’t believe that it’s actually happened. I can’t thank everybody enough for this, it’s so cool!” The whole race I was thinking about things that were out of our control, cautions that were going to flip the field. None of that happened
Dixon who three races on his way to the championship went on to say:
It was a very smooth race, but mentally it was tough and draining. Yeah, it’s amazing to be in this situation, fifth championship. What this team has achieved, I’m a very small piece in that whole wheelhouse of what’s going on at Chip Ganassi Racing. I feel very lucky to work with the people that I do.
Chip Ganassi who owns the team that Dixon drives for commented on the his drivers achievement saying:
He’s the guy on the track, off the track. “If you take a piece of stone, inject some brains into it, chisel it out, it’s Scott Dixon. He’s just the man.
“When you talk about records – A.J., Mario, all these guys – obviously Scott’s name is in that group now.
Dixon ended the year on 678 points compared to Alexander Rossi’s 621.
