Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team driver Marcus Ericsson has confirmed that he has held talks with several teams in the Verizon IndyCar Series about a full-time drive in the series for the 2019 season.

Speaking to the media on Thursday in Japan as ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix, the Swedish driver who will leave his F1 seat at the end of the season says he wants to race in the Verizon IndyCar Series and would love the chance to race on ovals.

Paddock Eye understands that one of the teams that could be interested in Marcus Ericsson is Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

SPM are looking for a replacement for Robert Wickens following the Canadian’s horrific accident at Pocono Raceway in August. A move to SPM would not require Ericsson to bring any sponsorship with Lucas Oil remaining as primary sponsor to the No.6 Honda.

Ericsson has confirmed that if he does go to IndyCar he will continue his role with the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team.
