Remembering Dan Wheldon

Dan Wheldon, the 2005 IndyCar and Indianapolis 500 winner was one of the most talented drivers on the Verizon IndyCar Series grid.

The Englishman won two Indianapolis 500’s during his career in the series having won the most famous motorsport event in the world twice, in 2005 with Andretti Autosport and again in 2011 with Bryan Herta Autosport.

In 128 starts in IndyCar, DW took 16 wins and earned five pole positions. Wheldon drove for Panther Racing, Andretti Autosport, Chip Ganassi Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport in partnership with Sam Schimdt.

Since Dan’s death at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2011 his legacy lives on within the sport, safety has improved in the Verizon IndyCar Series and in honor of Dan, the new IndyCar that was introduced in 2012 was named the DW12.

Racing continues in the Wheldon family as Dan’s son Sebastien is an extremely talented go-karter.

Dan may be gone, but he will never be forget!
