Rossi Excited To Expand His Racing Experience With The Baja 1000 Next Month
Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi who drives the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda in the Verizon IndyCar Series will step outside of his comfort zone next month after confirming during the Firestone tire test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week that he will contest the Baja 100 race in Mexico next month.
Speaking to IndyCar.com at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week, Rossi said:
It’s just one of those iconic races. “There’s a Honda connection, so I just figured why not?
“I had always wanted to do it and called Honda and was like, ‘Do you have an option for me?’ I had met the team owner (Proctor) at a Honda event a couple years ago. They were like, ‘Yeah, we’d love to have you,’ so it kind of just came together in a week.
Rossi will team up with two time Baja 100 class winner Jeff Proctor and has taken part in a two day test with Proctor to prepare for the 806.78 miles.
Rossi says he is pretty excited about competing in the race and is the sixth Indianapolis 500 winner to attempt the race alongside team mate Ryan Hunter Reay, Parnelli Jones, who won the event twice, back to back in 1971 and 72.
Rick Mears also competed in the race as did Danny Sullivan and Buddy Rice. The race takes place on November 16 and 17.
Other IndyCar drivers to have attempted the race include, Sebastien Bourdais, driver turned team owner Jimmy Vasser, Robby Gordon and Paul Tracey.
