McLaren CEO Zak Brown has confirmed that although the Woking based outfit will not compete in the Verizon IndyCar Series full-time in 2019 they may return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil on May 26.

Brown has confirmed that Formula One is and always will be McLaren’s main focus and has revealed that the stars just didn’t align for them to compete full-time in the Verizon IndyCar Series next season.

It is possible that although they have ruled out a full-time programme in 2019, McLaren could do a partial schedule in the Verizon IndyCar Series next season.

Brown has confirmed that when McLaren does enter IndyCar full-time they want to come into the series on their own terms as McLaren Racing and be competitive straight away by hitting the ground running.

Following the news last week that McLaren wouldn’t enter IndyCar full-time next season, Fernando Alonso said that he had never intended to compete in the series full-time in 2019.

The news that McLaren could return to the Indianapolis 500 next season could be a huge boost to the Verizon IndyCar Series particularly as they are looking into running a team full-time in the near future.
