Verstappen Leads The Way In FP1 In Brazil
Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen who took victory last time out in Mexico was the pace setter in the opening practice session on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Dutchman ended the session with a fastest time of 01:09.011s ending the morning just ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel who set a time of 01:09.060s.
Newly crowned champion Lewis Hamilton was third fastest for the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team with a time of 01:09.107s ending up just ahead of Aston Martin Rd Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo who was fourth with a time of 01:09.395s.
Kimi Raikkonen who is taking part in his penultimate Grand Prix for Ferrari this weekend was fifth fastest for the Prancing Horse with a time of 01:09.573s,
Raikkonen’s fellow Finn Valtteri Bottas in the second Mercedes rounded out the top six with a time of 01:09.679s. The Haas F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean was seventh fastest just ahead of his team mate Kevin Magnussen on a strong morning for the Kannapolis based outfit.
The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team’s Charles Leclerc was ninth fastest just ahead of Racing Point Force India F1 Team’s Esteban Ocon who rounded out the top ten with a time of 01:10.361s.
The Renault Sport F1 Team’s Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg ended the session in 11th and 12th place respectively.
Antonio Giovinazzi was 13th for the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team as he continues his preparations for the 2019 Formula One season. Williams Martini Racing’s Lance Stroll was 14th fastest just ahead of Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly.
Lando Norris who was driving in place of Fernando Alonso at McLaren this morning was 15th fastest with a time of 01:11.013s.
Sergey Sirotkin was 16th fastest in the second Williams just ahead of Brendon Hartley and Stoffel Vandoorne while Racing Point Force India F1 Team test and reserve driver Nicholas Latifi rounded out the order in 20th place with a time of 01:11.493s.
A total of 547 laps were completed in Free Practice One this morning. It will be interesting to see what FP2 has to offer this afternoon.
