Patrick Questions Stewart Haas Racing’s Motivation To Hold Onto Her
Former IndyCar and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick has questioned Stewart Haas Racing’s motivation to keep her in the car having lost her main sponsor at the end of last season.
In a wide ranging interview with Graham Bensinger for his podcast In Depth, Patrick said:
A lot of times I had brought the sponsors because they liked me, and they were there because of me. “But at some point in time most drivers… the team finds them money and so, I think I was easy road for most teams where I brought it and it was full sponsorship. And so, they had to be motivated to go find me sponsors, and motivation varied.
Patrick went on to say:
“Maybe they just wanted something new… Maybe they didn’t believe in me and they wanted something new. Maybe they just wanted to take the easy money. I think there were some people along the way that worked , but a lot of the time it was… easy money.”
Patrick returned to the cock-pit in 2018 for the Daytona 500 and the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500.
Patrick said that there was more posing in IndyCar and that it was always a case of who could get back to the hauler first as this showed which drivers had more commitment.
Patrick qualified for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 having joined Ed Carpenter Racing but retired from the race.
