McLaren’s decision to team up with Chevrolet for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 in May came as no surprise after the teams disappointing end to their 101st running of the event last year which saw Fernando Alonso retire from the race.

McLaren have decided not to partner with an existing team for the race next year and are instead laying the foundations for what could be a full-time IndyCar Series programme in 2020.

Chevrolet took victory at the Indianapolis 500 this year with Will Power and Team Penske entering victory lane.

McLaren entering the Indianapolis 500 is not a short term project as the team have brought in Bob Fernley as IndyCar President to oversee the programme and whether or not is feasible to enter the series full-time.
