Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden says that the outfit’s test at Sebring International Raceay earlier this weekend was productive and proved to be extremely beneficial for the team ahead of the start of the 2019 IndyCar Series season which gets underway on March 10 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.

Newgarden was joined at the test by his team mates, Simon Pagenaud and Indianapolis 500 winner Will Power.

The test was a way for the team to improve the driveability of the Penske car to enable them to have a winning start to the 2019 season. Newgarden who finished the 2018 season in fifth place felt that the team have deficiencies at all tracks during the 2018 season.

Newgarden praised his team for getting together so soon in the off-season with the engineers putting some great ideas in place for the upcoming season.

Newgarden felt that the test was a big step forward for the team and he is already looking forward to getting back in the car.

Team Penske were joined at the test by Schmidt Peterson Motorsports new signing Marcus Ericsson who will make his series debut alongside team mate James Hinchcliffe at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.

It was the first time that the Swede had driven an IndyCar and completed over 100 laps for the Honda powered team.
