IndyCar Is So Competitive Week In, Week Out
Head of Honda Performance Development Art St Cyr says that the company have a fantastic line up heading into the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season.
St Cyr said that the series are in a fortunate position as they have competitive races week in and week out.
Honda took their first manufacturers championship since the new era came in 2012.
Chip Ganassi Racing head into the new season off the back of a strong 2019 season while Andretti Autosport will be hoping for a strong season with their four drivers, Alexander Rossi, Ryan Hunter Reay, Marco Andretti and Zach Veach.
Honda also have a strong line up with Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports with James Hinchcliffe, Marcus Ericsson and Jack Harvey.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing also have Graham Rahal and Takuma Sato.
Speaking to the NTT IndyCar Series mobile app, St Cyr said:
Our hopes are very high. “Our hopes are high every year. Overall, we had a really good offseason at HPD. Our associates are working really hard to get a really good engine for this year.
“We still have Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay and the whole lineup that we have that is really strong from top to bottom, we’re really looking forward to the 2019 season.”
Speaking about Harding Steinbrenner Racing, the newest Honda powered team, St Cyr said:
“What is nice about the Harding Steinbrenner group is their purpose aligns with what we want to do, too, and that is bring up more young drivers to the IndyCar Series. “It works out great that there is a place to place these people, it works out great they are a new team and can draw some experience from a championship-winning team.
“It was shown at Spring Training that Colton Herta can be pretty fast.”
The 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season gets underway next weekend with the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
