Hunter Reay Stays Top On Saturday Morning
Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda stayed fastest in the final practice session ahead of Sunday’s season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
Hunter Reay set a fastest lap of 01:00.896s ending the session just ahead of Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Hitachi Chevrolet.
Takuma Sato in the No.30 Panasonic/Seeman Honda was third fastest for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 Menards Chevrolet and Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet were fourth and fifth respectively.
Ed Carpenter Racing with Scuderia Corsa’s Ed Jones was sixth fastest just ahead of defending champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing. Felix Rosenqvist in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda was eighth.
It was another strong session for Harding Steinbrenner Racing as Colton Herta in the No.88 Latitude Vacation Club Honda was ninth fastest while Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti in the No.98 US Concrete Honda rounded out the top ten.
AJ Foyt Racing’s Mathues Matt Leist was 11th fastest in the No.4 ABC Supply Chevrolet.
Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda was 12th fastest just ahead of his team mate Marcus Ericsson in the No.7 Arrow Electronics Honda.
Dale Coyne with Vassar Sullivan Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais in the No.18 Team SealMaster Honda was 14th fastest just just ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal in the No.15 United Rentals Honda.
Charlie Kimball was 16th fastest for Carlin just ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda.
Zach Veach in the No.26 Gainbridge Honda was 19th fastest for Andretti Autosport just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Tony Kanaan in the No.14 ABC Supply Chevrolet.
Max Chilton in the No.59 Gallagher Chevrolet was 21st for Carlin Racing just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Santino Ferrucci.
Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey in the No.60 AutoNation Sirius XM Honda was 23rd while Ben Hanley rounded out the order for DragonSpeed.
