An Interesting Fact About The Indianapolis 500
The 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is just 34 days away and with that in mind here at Paddock Eye we thought we take a look at interesting fact about the most famous motor race on the planet.
In the 102 running’s of the race that we have had, the driver who has won the race has only gone on to win the NTT IndyCar Series title 34 times in the same year.
The last driver to achieve this was Scotland’s Dario Franchitti when he won both the Indianapolis 500 and the NTT IndyCar Series championship for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2010.
Dario also achieved the double in 2007 while driving for Andretti Autosport, taking victory in an extremely wet Indianapolis 500 and going on to win the championship.
Dan Wheldon also did the double for Andretti Green Racing in 2005 winning both the Indianapolis 500 and the championship. The 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge takes place on May 26.
