Can Power Continue His Indy Dominance This Weekend?
Team Penske’s Will Power in the No.12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet heads into the month of May festivities at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway hoping for a repeat of last season where he dominated both the Indy Grand Prix and the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500.
The Australian goes into this weekend’s Grand Prix in sixth place in the drivers standings on 93 points.
Power has scored two NTT Pole awards in 2019 and speaking to the NTT IndyCar Series mobile app ahead of the race this weekend the Australian said:
Every time, I drive in with a big smile on my face. “Seeing that big banner obviously is pretty cool for me. I’m very proud to have won this race. I can’t wait to get started again.”
Team Penske president Tim Cindric says that Power is still in the prime of his career:
He realizes you’ve got the rest of your life to look back. “Right now, you’ve got to continue to kind of make your career. He’s always pretty focused on the next time out, the next race, the next opportunity. He’s still in the prime of his career and he wants more. He’s still hungry. I think that’s a good thing. He’s not kicking back.
Team Penske have the added bonus once again this year with the addition of Helio Castroneves in the No.3 Pennzoil Chevrolet for both the Grand Prix and the Indy 500 meaning that Power and his full time team mate’s Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud will have extra valuable data to work with for the entire month of May.
