The Verizon IndyCar Series have announced that 2,149,000 watched Fernando Alonso test his McLaren Honda Andretti over the course of Wednesday.
The test was live streamed on YouTube, the IndyCar website and on Facebook.
The Spaniard showed great pace throughout the day setting impressive lap speeds throughout the test. The double Formula One world champion’s fastest cornering speed was over 227mph.
The broadcast was presented by Kevin Lee with NBC Sports Robin Miller providing coverage from the pit-lane with studio guests including McLaren Executive Director Zak Brown and Indianapolis 500 winners Mario Andretti and Johnny Rutherford and Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles.
The viewership figures bode well for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil on May 28.
