AJ Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci in the No.14 Sexton Properties Chevrolet scored his career-best result on the streets of Detroit on Saturday.

Ferrucci started the race from 21st and came through the field to score a second-place finish, having come from 21st place to claim AJ Foyt Racing’s second podium finish in two races after David Maulkas’ second-place finish in the Greatest Spectacle In Racing.

Speaking following the race, Ferrucci, who led eight laps, said:

“First off. Huge, huge shout out to this whole team. We were struggling in qualifying. I struggled and I made a lot of mistakes. I was hard on myself yesterday because it was all on me. Pit stops were phenomenal. The stand was amazing with perfect strategy. I just got lucky with that yellow and I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see a red flag. I was really struggling. I don’t know what I did with the tires, but I couldn’t get them to come back to life. Kyle was so fast today. Congratulations to him and his team. I’m just happy to bring Chevy to the podium in our Sexton Properties A.J. Foyt Racing Foyt back on the podium on the Streets Of Detroit.”

David Malukas in the No.4 Clarience Technologies Chevrolet started the race on the front row and came home in 14th after an incident with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou.

Speaking following the race he said:

“We finished P 14 in the end, which is really unfortunate. We had a very good week. We found a lot of pace, got the car on that front row, and just got very unlucky on the start. Ended up people getting tows on us, and we were in clean air, so kind of just lost some positions throughout that. So we tried to get the tow and couldn’t, and filtered out p5 p6 where we were, and then, yeah, I just screwed up, honestly. Really just made a big mistake, but we recovered for P 14. So sorry to Clarience Technologies, A.J. Foyt, everybody on the team, and obviously to the 10 crew. We’ll bounce back.”

Today’s race result was Foyt’s first back-to-back podium finish since 2013, when Sato won in Long Beach and second in Brazil.

It was Foyt’s first runner up finish since Takuma Sato finished second in Detroit in 2015.

Speaking following the action, Larry Foyt, President of AJ Foyt Racing said:

“I really thought we had a shot at it, but I think the tires were just a little overheated and Kyle was able to get him. Santino did a great job on the restart to get back to second. This racing is so tough, and starting back from where we were, the guys did an amazing job in the pits. We  caught a yellow at the right time, which is what you need to cycle to the front. And it worked out. So, I think we’re really hitting a groove. Things are coming together. David was fast all weekend. I hate that he got the penalty in the race because he would have been right up there. But just really happy for Santino and the whole team because this was a whole team effort.”
