Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda endured a tricky sesson-ending Big Machine Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Super Speedway on Sunday.
The Iceman who had won here three times in succession from 2006 to 2008 came home in 17th place which was unfortunate.
The result meant that New Zealander lost a place in the championship and ended the year in sixth place in the standings, his worst result for a number of years despite victories in Toronto and Detroit.
Dixon ended the sesson 88 points behind champion Alex Palou.
Speaking following the action, Dixon said:
”Rough day for the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda, kind of from the get-go. What really killed us was pitting before the caution that caught us two laps down. There was really no format for us to get our laps back. We got back one, and then we kind of stuck with the one lap down. Then we had old tires and half tanks of fuel which kind of balloons the problem. Speed wise, I think we were ok. We just made a bad mistake at the start and it ruined the day.”
