The inaugural NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge at Watkins Glen International circuit in New York took place on Saturday afternoon with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s Sage Karam in the No.24 Wix Filters Chevrolet started the 45 lap from pole position and went on to dominate the race taking victory.
The event was the first of six NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge events which will run through the to the start of May. The next event takes place next week at Barber Motorsports Park.
The American Red Cross Grand Prix of Watkins Glen saw 25 drivers take part in the event however when the Mayor of HinchTown James Hinchcliffe tried to race in the event his car, the No.29 Genesys Andretti Autosport Honda was not in the game.
The race was action packed from the green flag when on lap 6, Arrow McLaren SP’s Oliver Askew in the No.7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet made contact with Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin in the No.2 Shell V Power Chevrolet who in turn collided with team mate’s Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden.
The race was well received by NTT IndyCar Series fans on social media. The next event at Barber Motorsports Park next weekend will once again be broadcast live on the NTT IndyCar Series website and their official YouTube channel.
