Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team’s Nyck de Vries had a great race four in Berlin at Tempelhof Airport. Starting the race from third he finished the race in fourth and speaking following the race he said:

I made a good start and got through the first lap without any problems. All in all, it was a great race, about which, there isn’t much I can say. But it was certainly a lot of fun to be in the top group. We controlled the race well, didn’t rush things and had everything in hand. Overtaking Oliver Rowland towards the end was real nice. He tried to make my life difficult and we made contact briefly, but I had an energy advantage over him and would have overtaken him one way or another.

Stoffel Vandoorne started the race from 20th and came through the field to finish the race in 12th and speaking following the race he said:

Unfortunately, no points for me today. I found it harder to go on a charge in this race but managed to at least gain a few positions – even though it wasn’t enough for points in the end. It’s not at all easy to push forwards in a race when you start from so far back. My result in qualifying influenced our entire day. Nevertheless, there are some positive aspects that we can take away from this round, especially with regards to energy management and the overtaking manoeuvres that I executed. It’s good that we now have two days off before the last two races when we can bring a positive end to our season, hopefully.

Mercedes Benz EQ Formula E Team Principal Ian James commented saying:

“Congratulations to António Félix da Costa for winning his first Championship and all the DS Techeetah Team for the Teams’ Championship. They performed outstandingly this year.

For our drivers, today was really intense. Stoffel defended his position well in the first half of the race, allowing him to attack towards the end and to finish P12. From the start, Nyck managed to keep his position in the lead group and did an outstanding job to keep things under control throughout. I am happy that he managed to gain on his starting postion, claiming P4 in the final lap. All in all, the team did a solid job, staying cool and focused throughout.

We now have two days before the final double-header. The new track layout will be interesting to race on and we are aiming to deliver a performance that rounds off our first season in style.”

The action continues in Berlin next week.
