Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team co-owner Bobby Rahal was delighted with his team’s performance in qualifying for today’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.

Takuma Sato in the No.30 Mi-Jack Panasonic Honda took his first road course pole position having set a fastest time of 01:08.5934s while his team mate Graham Rahal in the No.15 One Cure Honda will start the race from second place having set a time of 01:08.6971s.

The front row lock out was Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s first since the 2005 Chicagoland Grand Prix when Danica Patrick took pole ahead of Buddy Rice.

It was also the team’s 31st pole position in the NTT IndyCar Series history. Bobby Rahal who owns the team with Mike Lanigan and former late night talk show host David Letterman commented by saying:

I tell you, a great performance today by the team – all weekend, really.

“I think they called the tires right at the right time, everybody got a clear track, and in the end, it was all about how fast can you go. … We’ve got to feel pretty excited about (the race) and I told Takuma and Graham, ‘Let’s get through Turn 1 and then we’ll go racing.

The Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama is live on Sky Sports F1HD from 9PM UK time.
