This weekend’s Honda Indy 200 at the Mid Ohio sportscar course is a home race of sorts for Firestone Racing, the official tire supplier to the NTT IndyCar Series.
Firestone’s base is just 75 miles from the circuit in Akron.
This weekend, Firestone have brought more than 1600 tires to the track with each driver receiving the following allocation.
- 7 sets of the Black PRIMARY tire
- 4 sets of the RED ALTERNATE tire
- 5 sets of the GREY RAIN tire
Speaking about the race this weekend, chief engineer of Firestone Racing Cara Adams said:
“The Mid-Ohio race is special for the entire Firestone Race Tire Engineering team because it’s as close as we get to a home race. The circuit is only 75 miles from our Bridgestone campus in Akron, Ohio, which is where all Firestone Firehawk race tires used in the NTT IndyCar Series are designed and produced. This weekend at Mid-Ohio allows us the chance to bring many of our tire builders, engineers, technicians and their families to a race to watch and celebrate the results of the hard work they put in all season. This year the primary tire compound and construction are the same as the 2019 Barber primary tire. The alternate construction is the same as the primary, while the alternate compound for all four tire positions this year is similar to what was used on just the left side alternate tires for last year’s 2018 Mid-Ohio race. We’ve gone to one alternate compound on all tire positions to make the car more balanced moving from primaries to alternates based on driver feedback.”
