Scott McLaughlin, driver of the No.3 Good Ranchers Team Penske Chevrolet, has been busy since the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. The New Zealander topped the times on the final day of testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last week in the boost session. Earlier this week, ahead of the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park, he became a dual citizen of both New Zealand and the United States.
McLaughlin is the highest-placed Team Penske driver in the championship standings after the first three races of the season in eighth place on 69 points, 73 behind championship leader Alex Palou.
This weekend’s Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park marks the start of a crucial period for the drivers in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, as it is the kick-off event for May. The Sonsio Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the IMS road course next weekend, on Friday and Saturday, before practice gets underway for the Greatest Spectacle In Racing, the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday, May 25.
McLaughlin has been the standout performer at Barber Motorsports Park in recent years, with the New Zealander heading into the weekend aiming for a hat-trick of victories, having won here in 2023 and last season too.
Championship leader Alex Palou, who leads the standings 34 points from Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood, is no stranger to victory lane at Barber Motorsports Park, as this is where the Spaniard claimed his first career victory in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES on his race debut for Chip Ganassi Racing back in 2021.
Honda Racing Corporation U.S has had a perfect start to the 2025 season with three wins from the opening three races but Chevrolet will be hoping that they can bounce back this weekend and claim the top step of the podium.
