Kimi ‘The Iceman’ Raikkonen heads to the Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit this weekend following an extremely strong performance for the Finn last time out in Bahrain which saw him end the race in second place behind Nico Rosberg.
Raikkonen has great memories of the Chinese Grand Prix as he took victory here in 2007 with Ferrari on his way to winning the championship. Looking back on that win, Kimi says:
There were tricky conditions, it was wet to start with and then the track was drying up, so obviously there was a point to change the Intermediates tires and then we got a ride. Obviously not the easiest race to anybody, but we came out quite easily.
Speaking about the circuit itself, the Iceman said:
The circuit is quite challenging. First of all, you must mind the start with first few corners where you can get a lot of lap time, if you can get it right though. It’s not an easy circuit, but it’s fun.
Following his podium in Bahrain, Raikkonen is in 5th place in the championship equal on 18 points with the Haas F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean. He went on to talk about his experiences of Shanghai the city:
I was always in the middle of the city but I haven’t been out the door. I’ve only been at the circuit and in the hotel, so all I can say is that sometimes in the morning the traffic can be really tricky”.
