The 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season gets underway on Sunday 18th April with the IndyCar Grand Prix of Alabama with a strong rookie field.
On the grid for that race will be three drivers who are rookies in name only.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Jimmie Johnson comes to the NTT IndyCar Series from NASCAR where he won seven championships.
Romain Grosjean comes to the NTT IndyCar Series having been confirmed by Dale Coyne with Rick Ware Racing following ten years in Fomula One.
Speaking to Paddock Eye following Wednesday’s announcement about Romain Grosjean, team owner Dale Coyne said:
I think it will be big. Honda has already shown more enthusiasm about our simulator work, what we can learn from that knowing he has an extensive background of some work in the Europe. That’s probably our biggest addition this year with his knowledge, what we can learn on a simulator.
Team Penske have added a fourth car for multiple Australian Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin who makes his full-time move to the NTT IndyCar Series this season.
It is a great rookie field for 2021 and Johnson, Grosjean and McLaughlin will be extremely fast out of the box and bring plenty of experience to the table.
