Zachary Claman DeMelo who joined Dale Coyne Racing over the Verizon IndyCar Series off-season to drive the No.19 PaySafe Honda in place of Ed Jones started the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg from 22nd place and ran as high as fourth place during the 110 lap race.
Following a great battle with the likes of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, Claman DeMelo finished the race in 17th place.
Speaking following the race, the Montreal native commented by saying:
It was a good race. At the beginning we were running fourth for quite a while. The cautions didn’t fall our way at the beginning, but we had a good pace. We were probably missing a little bit to the guys in front of us. Although, I did have a good battle with Dixon and kept him behind me for a while. I’m happy we held on. It’s unfortunate that a small fuel issue at the end cost us couple of positions but it’s part of the game. It was all a learning experience today.
DeMelo’s next outing in the No.19 PaySafe Honda will be the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach next month as Pierto Fittipaldi will be in the No.19 for the Phoenix Grand Prix.
