Andretti Global’s James Roe in the No.29 Topcon Dallara had a solid Sonsio Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the IMS road in INDY NXT presented by Firestone on Saturday sfter recovering from a tough event on Friday.
Roe got into second place off the line in race 1 but locked up and had to pit and was forced to serve a drive through penalty and came home in 15th place.
Speaking about Friday’s race, Roe said:
That one was on me. “We had a great qualifying position starting on the inside of the second row. Going into Turn 7, I locked up my fronts, went straight and got a flat spot on my tires. Tomorrow’s a new day and we have a fast car. Ready to get back to it and see what we can do.”
In race 2 on Saturday Roe found redemption. Starting the race from third he fought all race long with Nolan Siegel who is competing part time in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES with Dale Coyne Racing to finish fourth
Speaking about Saturday’s race, Roe, who heads to Detroit next month in seventh place said:
We had a messy start after getting hit and knocked out of position so we had to climb our way back forward. “I think the pace was awesome and it was a hard fought fourth position. I don’t think I ever fought so hard for a top-five finish. Now we’re onto Detroit.”
Roe raced with a special Notre Dame-themed gold helmet.
