The Verizon IndyCar Series heads to ISM Raceway this weekend for the Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix which takes place on Saturday,
The weekend is a a very special one for Verizon IndyCar Series veteran and former Formula One world champion Mario Andretti as this weekend marks 25 years since his final Verizon IndyCar Series win which came at the Phoenix International Raceway (now ISM Raceway).
Andretti’s Verizon IndyCar Series career dates back to 1964. Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race, Andretti said that sometimes it feels like it was 100 years ago since his last win and then other times it is just like yesterday, it all depends on what side of the bed he gets up on. There will be a number of special events throughout the weekend to celebrate Andretti’s win.
Mario’s grandson, Marco will feature a special commemorative livery to celebrate Mario’s win.
Mario said that if his son Michael, owner of Verizon IndyCar Series team Andretti Autosport was mad enough to give him a drive in Saturday’s race he would jump at the opportunity to compete in the race.
