The Joe Gibbs Racing team issued the following statement ahead of today’s NASCAR Cup Series season-ending race in Phoenix following the sudden death of team co-owner Coy Gibbs.
It is with great sorrow that Joe Gibbs Racing confirms that Coy Gibbs (co-owner) went to be with the Lord in his sleep last night. The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers and asks for privacy at this time.

Coy Gibbs death came just hours after his son Ty took victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship.
Denny Hamlin who drives the No.11 FedEx Toyota Camry tweeted:
