Chip Ganassi Racing’s Jimmie Johnson says he would love to race the Music City Grand Prix in Nashville at night. Speaking to Paddock Eye during a Zoom conference call on Tuesday, the seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Series champion said that a street night race would be pretty amazing.
It would be pretty awesome and he said that he wasn’t sure that it could be an option. Johnson said that it is a great idea and that he would fully support that and that it would be awesome.
There has been no talk about this being a possibility for 2022, however, we pointed out to JJ that with Nashville being such a draw due to their music industry and nighttime events it would be great to see the race run at night. Speaking about working with Dario Franchitti, Johnson told Paddock Eye that he had some good options to join IndyCar teams but that his relationship with Chip Ganassi Racing was great because it felt like home for him.
Speaking about Dario he said that his approach, his sincere desire to see him do well has been great, and been able to work with everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing has been great and he is really proud to be a part of it.
Paddock Eye asked JJ about the oval situation to which he said that he is planning to test at Homestead Miami Speedway next month and he feels that there should be crossover from his time at NASCAR when he tests on an oval and he said it is a case of finding the risk or reward as to what the situation with an oval race in IndyCar is.
Johnson has also confirmed that there is a very real possibility that we could compete in the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge next May but that a number of scenarios need to fall into place, for one thing, Ganassi would have to secure another chassis.
