Dale Coyne Racing endured a tough qualifying for the Honda Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place on Saturday.
Esteban Gutierrez in the No.18 Unifin Honda made it into the Firestone Fast 6 but was made contact with the wall just after the pit-lane entrance causing considerable damage to the car, however fortunately the former F1 driver was unhurt in the accident.
As a result of the accident, Gutierrez will start the race from the back of the grid in 21st place and speaking following the session he commented by saying:
It was not ideal obviously, it’s been a tough weekend overall. Yesterday we lost a bit of track time due to contact in Turn 1 and today it was a pretty hard hit in a high-speed corner. I was having some understeer and I was trying to anticipate a bit the entry of the corner but I touched the inside wall a bit and it sent me straight into the outside wall, pretty hard. It’s unfortunate and I feel really bad for the team, they have a lot of work to do.
Ed Jones in the No.19 Boy Scouts of America Honda will start the race from 15th place and speaking following the session the Verizon IndyCar Series rookie commented by saying:
It was a tough qualifying but the jump with the Firestone Reds was very big. I thought I did a pretty good lap but I missed by just a little bit, something like a tenth, to advance to the Fast 12. It was close as usual but frustrating at the same time but I’m sure we can have a good race tomorrow.
