The opening qualifying session of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg proved to be a challenging one for Dale Coyne Racing’s Santino Ferrucci in the No.19 David Yurman Honda.

Red flags caused problems during group one which Ferrucci was in and one red flag was for his off track visit and as a result he starts the race from 23rd on the grid.

Ferrucci failed to register a time and speaking following the session he said:

That’s definitely not how I wanted to start off the season in qualifying here at St Petersburg aboard my #19 David Yurman Honda. “I made a rookie mistake going into Turn 12 and ended up in the tire barrier. I feel bad because it not only ruined my qualifying but also Sebastien’s (Bourdais). It’s a long race and we’ll do our best to make our way forward. Sebastien has won from the back here before, so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.
