Chip Ganassi Racing managing director Mike Hull has confirmed that shrapnel piercing the radiator of Scott Dixon’s No.9 PNC Bank Honda in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 on Saturday night was the cause of the Iceman’s retirement from the race.
Replying to a question from a fan on Twitter Hull said:
3-wide salute to #IndyCar Fans was impressive; very large piece of shrapnel prob left on track from K/N engine explosions was drop-kicked on the start; went thru stainless screen, rad core then broke 2 tubes on back side of rad – not a day to play the lottery. https://t.co/ANq8dzW7sH
