Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Mikhail Aleshin in the No.7 SMP Racing Honda heads into the Verizon IndyCar Series season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma following a difficult race last time in Watkins Glen.
The Russian retired from the race on lap 14 following contact. Aleshin is currently in 15th place in the series standings on 309 points.
The 2016 season has been a breakthrough season for the Russian at the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway last month he secured his first Verizon P1 Award and went to score his first podium finish coming home in second place behind race winner Will Power and speaking ahead of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aleshin commented by saying:
It’s going to be great to be back at Sonoma Raceway because I really enjoy that track. I have a lot of good memories from races I’ve done there and I’ll do my best to have another good finish for the Verizon IndyCar Series season finale. The SPM team has had some good momentum in the second half of the season so I hope we can put the No. 7 SMP Racing car up front to finish where we deserve to be.
