Andretti Autosport team owner Michael Andretti has confirmed that he has been in contact with Fernando Alonso about the possibility of joining the IndyCar Series in 2019 with McLaren in partnership with Andretti.

Andretti has confirmed that the double world champion has yet to give him an answer and has confirmed that if the Spaniard does make the move across the pond it will be for a full-time IndyCar programme rather than a rumored part time schedule to run alongside his Formula One commitments.

Formula One will head on their summer break from Monday following this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix with Alonso saying that he will make a decision about his future over the break.

Zak Brown, meanwhile has said that he and Alonso will stay in Europe during the summer as the Spaniard is competing in the Six Hours of Silverstone for Toyota.
