Fernando Alonso says he wants to win the Daytona 24 Hours as he prepares to return to the circuit after competing with United Autosport here last year.

The double Formula One world champion and 2018 LeMans winner is competing in this year’s event with Wayne Taylor Racing alongside his Toyota Gazoo Racing team mate Kamui Kobayashi.

Alonso has been quick from the get go during the Roar Before The 24 having been second fastest in Free Practice 1 on Friday and then being fastest of all in the second practice in the afternoon.

Alonso who retired from Formula One at the end of last season will continue his WEC programme with Toyota as well as competing in the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 in May.
