McLaren Honda Andretti driver Fernando Alonso completed an incredible 110 laps in the No.29 McLaren Honda Andretti race car at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday lapping at over 222mph.
The double world champion completed rookie orientation within his first 50 laps in the car and despite a bird strike late in the run Alonso got through his programme flawlessly, running pace car laps along with fuel saving laps.
Alonso was extremely happy with the car and just kept going out on track with McLaren and Andretti Autosport delighted with the Spaniard’s progress.
Alonso’s best speed over the course of the day was a 222.548MPH lapped at 40.4408s. Alonso was joined by team mate Marco Andretti who carried out an initial shakedown of the No.29 Honda.
