McLaren Honda Andretti driver Fernando Alonso who will make his Verizon IndyCar Series debut in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil on Sunday from fifth place on the grid.
The double Formula One world champion has been extremely impressive during the Month of May as he prepares for the Indianapolis 500 with McLaren in partnership with Andretti Autosport.
The Spaniard has completed the most number of laps of any of the 33 drivers participating in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Throughout the practice sessions, Alonso completed a staggering 484 laps and set the fifth combined fastest speed around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a speed of 231.827MPH.
A total of 11,488 laps were completed by the 33 drivers who will take part in Sunday’s race. Speaking following Carb Day, Fernando Alonso commented by saying:
“It was very smooth. “The car felt the best so far in the last two weeks, so extremely happy with the car. I was there making some moves, some different lines … so I was practicing that.
“The car felt great. Today I think we put all the ticks in all the boxes and extremely happy.”
