McLaren Renault’s Fernando Alonso has confirmed that although he will not compete in the Verizon IndyCar Series full time in 2019 he may compete in the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
Speaking to the official IndyCar website at the Circuit Of The Americas in Austin Texas over the weekend, the double Formula One world champion said:
“I would love to do it, to be honest. “It’s a race that was magic last year and it still has the biggest appeal for me, especially now after winning Le Mans.
“It’s only one step away from the Triple Crown and I would love to do it. I don’t know if it’s going to be next year or in the future, but it is part of the project of next year’s calendar.”
When it comes to competing full-time in the Verizon IndyCar Series, Alonso said that he may do it in the future but in 2019 he is focused on the FIA World Endurance Championship.
