McLaren CEO Zak Brown has confirmed that Fernando Alonso may test a Verizon IndyCar Series machine in the autumn.
Paddock Eye understands that plans for a 2019 Verizon IndyCar Series programme are not dead in the water with Brown confirming that McLaren will make a decision during Formula One’s summer break which begins on Monday following the Hungarian Grand Prix.
It had been reported this week that Alonso was due to test with Andretti Autosport in Portland next week as the Verizon IndyCar Series prepares for the race there however Brown has confirmed that there were never any plans for Alonso to test in US in August as he is focused on the World Endurance Championship with the Six Hours of Silverstone fast approaching.
Brown believes that if Alonso goes down to the IndyCar route it will be extremely beneficial to the Spaniard and the series will benefit from his involvement in the sport.
If Alonso does decide that his future is in the Verizon IndyCar Series it will be a new audience to the series with fans of the Spaniard’s following him in the series after seeing his rise in Formula One.
