McLaren Honda driver Fernando Alonso is set to carry out a test for the Toyota Gazoo Racing WEC team later this month.
The double world champion reportedly visited the Toyota factory in Cologne this week for a seat fitting in the Toyota TS050 Hybrid ahead of a potential drive at next year’s LeMans 24 Hours with Toyota.
Alonso will compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona in January for United Autosports alongside team mate Lando Norris who has just been promoted to the role of McLaren test driver.
Alonso, who competed in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil earlier this year is set to test the Toyota TS050 Hybrid at the Bahrain International Circuit on November 19.
Toyota who have yet to commit to the 2018 World Endurance Championship have said that they would be open to Alonso joining them for LeMans as the Spaniard’s new McLaren contract gives him the freedom to race in other categories of motorsport.
