Verizon IndyCar Series legend and former Formula One world champion Mario Andretti believes that Fernando Alonso should move to the Verizon IndyCar Series full-time in 2018.

The double Formula One world champion is out of contract with McLaren at the end of the current campaign and Andretti believes that Alonso will have no problem finding a competitive full-time seat in the series in 2018 especially following his impressive performances during the month of May.

Mercedes and Renault who were tipped to try and sign Alonso have firmly shut the door on such a possibility.

Andretti believes that Alonso could win races in IndyCar in 2018 and return to Formula One in 2019. For his part, his future is something that Alonso has not discussed during his preparation for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.

The Spaniard has said previously he would use the Summer break to decide his future plans.
