McLaren Honda Andretti driver Fernando Alonso showed the racing world that he is a racer by turning up to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday and climbing into the No.29 Honda and getting up to speed on a circuit he has never raced on.

The Spaniard showed his ability to adapt his driving style with the handling of the Verizon IndyCar Series car being completely different to his McLaren Formula One car, for one thing there is no power steering in an IndyCar.

Alonso completed a staggering 110 laps over the course of the day doing everything from pit-stop practice to simulating caution and pace car laps at the Speedway.

Speaking following the test Andretti Autosport CEO Michael Andretti said that Alonso had ticked all the boxes during the test.

Four time Verizon IndyCar Series champion and 1969 Indianapolis 500 champion Mario Andretti said that Alonso looked like a 20 year veteran on the Speedway.

Speaking following the test during a press conference at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Alonso said that the car felt as he expected following his time in the Honda IndyCar simulator.

The Spaniard did a fastest speed of 222.568mph around the Speedway.
