Double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso will drive for Toyota Gazoo Racing at the 2018 LeMans 24 Hours.
BBC Sport report that Alonso, who recently signed a contract extension with McLaren will compete in a Toyota TS050 Hybrid in the World Endurance Championship’s flagship event.
The Spaniard who is still aiming to win motor-sports triple crown, the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the LeMans 24 Hours came close to winning the 2017 Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in May of this year is expected to test the Toyota at the Bahrain International Circuit following the 2017 WEC season next weekend.
Speaking ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Alonso denied the rumors about the LeMans 24 Hours however Paddock Eye understands that as the World Endurance Champion season doesn’t overlap with the Formula One calendar that Alonso will complete most of the 2018 World Endurance Championship season.
Alonso will compete in the Daytona 24 Hours in January for United Autosport’s alongside McLaren team mate Lando Norris and Williams test and reserve driver Paul Di Resta.
Toyota has refused to comment on the speculation regarding Alonso.
